- Delivering lectures, workshops, and hands-on lab sessions

- Adapting explanations to different skill levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners
- Assessment & Evaluation
- Designing quizzes, exams, and practical assessments (e.g., capture-the-flag challenges, simulated incident response)
- Grading assignments and providing constructive feedback
- Evaluating student readiness for certification exams or job placement
- Staying Current
- Continuously researching emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and attack techniques
- Keeping tools, labs, and case studies updated as the threat landscape evolves
- Maintaining or renewing personal industry certifications
- Mentorship & Guidance
- Advising students on career paths (SOC analyst, penetration tester, security engineer, etc.)
- Supervising capstone projects or practical exercises

- Master's degree preferred for university-level or advanced program roles
- Relevant coursework or training in networking, systems administration, or software development is often required alongside the security specialization
- Industry Certifications
- CompTIA Security+ (often the baseline requirement)
- Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
- CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) — usually for senior or advanced roles
- OSCP (Offensive Security Certified Professional) — valued for hands-on/pentesting-focused programs
- CISM or CISA — for governance/risk/compliance-focused teaching

- Professional Experience

- Experience handling actual incidents, audits, or assessments (not just theoretical knowledge)

- Strong communication skills — translating technical concepts for varying skill levels

- Technical Skills
- Solid grasp of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VPNs)
- Operating systems proficiency (Linux is especially important for security tooling)
- Scripting/programming ability (Python, Bash) for automation and lab development
